The most effective feedback is clear, kind, and forward-focused.
If you want feedback to land (without triggering defensiveness), focus on three things:
🔹 Clarity: Be specific, not vague.
🔹 Impact over intent: Avoid assumptions about their motives. Instead, share how it affected you.
🔹 Forward-focus: Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Offer a path forward.
💬 “The other day when you interrupted me, I felt disrespected. In the future, could you let me finish my thought before jumping in?”
That’s:
âś… Specific
âś… Direct
âś… Non-judgmental
✅ Hard to argue with — and easy to act on
You’re not accusing. You’re not attacking.
You’re just naming what happened, how it landed, and what you’d like instead.
